Bed Hermin has offered trainings for medical students at Community Health Link and provided training as part of CNA continuing education credits for the American Association of Medical Assistants in Massachusetts. The ability of trans and nonbinary people to be open with their identities in healthcare settings has increased recently due to the wonderful efforts of compassionate, just, and forward-thinking folks in many areas of society. Basic understanding and respect for these marginalized groups, however, are not completely commonplace and it is important for us as a community to be learning and growing in service of a more perfect union. How do we do this when the vanguard is still adding new terms, methods of communication, and information that changes how we interact with trans folks and nonbinary folks? These trainings cover not only the most up-to-date knowledge on compassionate care for gender-nonconforming folks (including terminology, common diagnosis, and statistical information regarding healthcare), but also practical activities that can be applied to any discipline and exercises that will help each provider lead with their most compassionate and kind selves.
Expressive Arts Therapy methods can be applied to many different disciplines, and workshops can strengthen the confidence of practitioners who are already versed in the method. These interactive workshops are structured based off of Bed Hermin's gratuate school thesis paper on a specific intervention called Kin(a)esthetic Paper play, and can be adapted to fit the needs of any organization or group looking to learn about Expressive Arts Therapy and/or weave it into an existing practice. Given that Expressive Arts Therapy is a new discipline, there aren't many trained and credentialed folks out there who can guide you through the principles and practices of this wonderful healing modality, which is why Bed Hermin offers a tailored experience that rises to the level of expertise and wisdom to match any group or organization's needs.
Originally a course commissioned by Goddard House, an assisted living facility in Massachusetts, and designed specifically for older adults, this eight week course is an introduction to mindfulness-based practices within the context of the aging process. Weaving traditional mindfulness methods with history, biology, and psychology, Bed Hermin guides participants in a multifaceted learning experience within a supportive and caring environment. The course aims to cultivate a healthy and positive relationship to the body, mind, and spirit. Each class session includes a presentation, group sharing, and the opportunity to try different methods such as meditation, tai chi, yoga, music, sustainable compassion practice, and guided imagery. There are many different ways of entering into the space of peaceful awareness and embracing the natural flow of life.
